Jody Pratt - Being with nature

Relax with a cup of tea and enjoy the lovely illustrations of Jody Pratt at The Artists Lounge at Wyreena. That’s exactly what I did and had a great chat to Jody about her work. I discovered some interesting facts about Jody. When Jody was young she spent many summer holidays with her family in the Northern Territory where her Aunty was stationed as a nurse. Jody would sit and paint everyday with an aboriginal woman named Myana who would grind up pigment and paint.

“When I use reds I still think about the earthy colours and it makes me happy, that perhaps a little bit of my experiences in the Northern Territory have crept into my work. Ultimately my experiences got me into art. I go on an illustration tangent but I always go back to painting.” Looking at all of Jody’s work on show at Wyreena you can certainly see the influence the times with Myana have had on her work. The wonderful earthy dessert reds, the patterns, texture and simplicity so much part of the aboriginal culture.

All of Jody's work is reminiscent of herself and the places she enjoys.
“The meaning of my artwork is just me and being with nature.” Her favorite piece of work, ‘An Evening in Paris’ painted in acrylic with collage leaves from Paris wrapping paper represents the feel and the lights of Paris. “I feel like I am there.”

If you are looking for more of Jody’s work, pop into Birch Living, Clifton Hill where you can regularly find Jody’s works for sale, or visit The Little Seeds Cafe, Thornbury.
